PH-Indonesia Defense Committee Convenes in Manila

Co-chaired by Philippine Defense Undersecretary Pio Lorenzo Batino and Indonesia’s Director for Defense Strategy Major General Sonny ES Prasetyo, the Philippines-Indonesia Joint Defense and Security Cooperation Committee (JDSCC) convened for the 5th time in Manila on August 20.

The meeting reviewed the progress of bilateral defense cooperation between the Philippines and Indonesia, noting that defense cooperation has been robust given the intelligence exchanges, coordinated border patrols, educational exchanges and bilateral training activities having been undertaken in the past year.

The Philippine and Indonesian delegations also exchanged views on global and regional security matters, and developments on defense cooperation to include recent developments in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), major power relations in the Asia-Pacific, the peace process between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) closure program, and Indonesia’s counter-terrorism efforts.

The JDSCC implements, manages, and monitors defense cooperation between the two (2) countries to include bilateral military activities such as exchange of information, high-level and working-level visits, and education and training opportunities.
