PH-US Strategic Dialogue

The Philippines and the US have launched a  Bilateral Strategic Dialogue, with the inaugural meeting being held in Manila, Philippines on 27-28 January 2011.  Co-hosted by the Philippines’ Department of National Defense (DND) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the two-day dialogue enabled senior officials from the foreign and defense departments as well as representatives from other agencies of both countries to examine PH-US relations amidst a range of regional and global issues that are of common interest as well as bilateral economic and security concerns.

With the second day being devoted to a Defense Officials Dialogue, defense officials led by PH Undersecretary Pio Lorenzo Batino and US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (PDASD) Derrick J. Mitchell had a frank and open exchange of views on defense and military related matters.

The dialogue highlighted the necessity and importance of ensuring and sustaining coordination and collaboration among the various agencies of the Philippines and the US. At the end of the dialogue, the senior officials agreed to establish working groups to ensure the deepening of cooperation on regional and global diplomatic engagement, economics and trade, rule of law and law enforcement, and territorial defense and maritime security.
