Gazmin signed together with New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Murray McCully a Memorandum of Arrangement on Defense Cooperation between the Philippine Department of National Defense/Armed Forces of the Philippines and New Zealand Ministry of Defense/Defense Forces on 23 October 2012.

The Memorandum of Arrangement provides the framework for Philippines and New Zealand’s cooperation in the field of defense along the following areas high level exchanges, education and capacity building, training activities and exercises, information exchange and multilateral cooperation.

While the Philippines and New Zealand have had defense cooperation primarily through their defense and security talks, exchange of students and co-chairmanship of the Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations of the ADMM-Plus, the MOA further institutionalizes the two partners’ cooperative engagement and opens opportunities for engaging each other in additional areas, specifically training activities and information exchange.
